An international team of researchers has found that BPA, a chemical used in plastic packaging and in the linings of food and beverage cans can pass from the mother to her baby causing chronic inflammation in the offspring’s intestines and liver.
This study on rabbits did not see the offspring directly exposed to BPA. Rather, BPA exposure was delivered from the mother through the placenta and milk. The researchers found that this exposure may lead to long-lasting health issues.
